Jody's Notes
Aesthetically, this was a new move for me. One that I only started to exploit a lot years and years later. (Mostly in the poems I published in Hereafter Landscapes, actually---but also in some poems I wote a little earlier.) The second sentence is unfinished. (It's not a sentence, grammatically speaking.)
The soap bubble
like a newborn lung
holds its breath
before bursting.
So too
when the clock’s tick is at an end
when its hands, no longer trapped in time
wander like knives.
