In fact, I think the themes of this poem have nothing to do with the themes of Teleology.
The periodicity of landscape
masks the throb of rock.
The cosmetics of time,
its cycle of color:
reflection of climate.
In this sense (and in every other)
life is only on the surface:
mind simply the skin
carbon wears.
